Cycle over the grounds between winter dikes and the bed of the Waal that originated in the Middle Ages, when the dikes were built and water management was better regulated. Behind it are green meadows where cattle graze. In the typical Dutch environment there are many smaller villages and towns. The largest city is Gendt, which originated on the banks of the Waal. It is already an old city, which received city rights in 1233. There were once two castles in Gendt, but only Poelwijk Castle remains. Much of the castle has been lost; only the castle tower remains. The tower, which can be seen from the road, dates from the 15th century. There are murals on the first floor of the tower, which is not common in the Netherlands.
