Joure, or De Jouwer, as the Dutch name of the town is, is not a city, but it is too big to be called a village. In Friesland such a place is called a vlecke. The name Joure immediately brings to mind Douwe Egberts. In 1753, Egbert Douwes started a business selling colonial goods on Midstraat in Joure, which has grown into the well-known coffee roaster and markets one of the largest Dutch coffee brands. The small town of Delfstrahuizen is located on the other side of the Tjeukemeer (Tjsukemar), which you cycle around during this bike tour. The northeastern part of this lake is less than a meter deep, but gradually the depth increases. There are three small islands in the lake.
