Description

Go on a bike ride and enjoy the architectural delights that Almere has to offer. The route starts at the VVV on Stadhuisplein and goes via Stadshart Almere to't Weerwater. There, hidden between the beautiful greenery, lies the experimental residential village De Fantasie. At the end of the eighties, various architects won the competition for special homes on the edge of the Stedenwijk and't Weerwater. The Filmwijk is reached via the recreational lake Weerwater. Again special homes. In 1992 Almere was again able to participate in the outdoor exhibition of the BouwRAI. This expo was also held two years earlier, in Muziekwijk H, which will be visited later on this route. The Filmwijk is set up in a semicircle, from the air it looks like half a film can. The route continues to Almere Buiten. Two neighborhoods stand out here for different reasons. The Rainbow Neighborhood lives up to its name: a colorful neighbourhood, where almost all the colors of the rainbow can be found on the facades. The Eilandenbuurt provides a nice picture of contemporary housing. The residents were given more say than usual, hence the title Gewild Wonen. The projects were completed in 2001. The Oostvaardersbuurt also shows nice homes, with resounding street names from the Golden Age. The Leeghwaterplas is reached via other neighbourhoods. From here it is possible to go to the Noorderplassen, where the residential area De Reality can be found: the second experimental residential area after De Fantasie. Nice to visit. Some houses are inhabited, others are not. You can also enjoy a refreshment on the terrace at Boathouse, after which you continue cycling to the Beatrixpark, the largest city park in Almere. There are paved paths, fun jetties and a playground for younger visitors. And don't forget the Gateway Diner, a special hangout on the water's edge. The next stop is the Kunstlokaal at the Muziekwijk railway station. A citizens' initiative has led to this creative room. Various exhibitions and meetings have been held here. Subsequently, the first outdoor exhibition in Almere is visited: Just past the shopping center, pass the station underneath and then via the cycle path to this part of the Muziekwijk. This nice residential area of the Buiten-RAI is located here. Now back on the pedals to the Stadshart for some shopping or something to eat. (C) This cycle route is offered to you by VVV Almere.
