Description

The Houtroute goes through the beautiful nature reserve of Almouderhout and the future eastern development of Almere. in 2020, 300,000 people should live in Almere and it has become the fifth largest city in the country. The route starts at NS station Almere Buiten, where the bicycle shop is also located. We first go along the railway towards the Seasons Neighborhood and just before that we go under the railway towards the Equator and cross it. We have now arrived at the edge of the Rainbow Neighborhood at the Meridian Park. At the bridge we cross the water villas in the Victoria Regiastraat and drive into the Buitenhout, a varied forest. Further on we pass the riding school Lies Beuker, where you can also enjoy a snack. We cross the A6 and arrive in the countryside with farms on large plots. The many windmills that can be seen in this area are striking. In recent years it has become interesting to generate electricity. The farmers use it to run their businesses and the remaining energy is sold to an electricity company. Along the route along these farmlands we also encounter some shipwrecks. The wrecks are sometimes excavated, but often also covered with earth. The markings indicate where the remains lie. You will come across one after point 95, just before the Vogelweg. There is also one for point 93, before the underpass of the A27. Via the Green Cathedral, we reach the bridge that leads us to the other side. Here we pass the Circle Forest and go to Overgooi. The nice thing is that the residents here have all come up with nicknames for their homes. Just look at the gates or the facades, you will find them there. The plots here are large, as is the diversity in architectural styles. Sometimes a family lives in one house, in other houses more families live. These houses are all different, both in shape and in appearance or color. It's a fun journey of discovery. Then we set course for the Waterlandse Bos, where you can also see the never-completed Kasteel Almere. The building was supposed to be a replica of the castle in Jemeppe, Belgium, but was never completed due to the bankruptcy of the builder. We are now driving through the Danswijk and on the dividing line of Parkwijk and Tussen de Vaarten towards the Spoorbaanpad that takes us back to Almere Buiten railway station. You can enjoy this special cycle route in the shopping center or in the adjacent DoeMere. (C) This cycle route is offered to you by VVV Almere.
