Midden-Groningen, Groningen, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 121685
Provided by: Groots Genieten
The smaller church villages in Groningen are a nice contrast to the hustle and bustle of the capital of that province. You cycle through the polders, past lakes and windmills to the city.
Zuidlaardermeer
From here you cycle to the vibrant city of Groningen. You can take plenty of time to see the sights and soak up the atmosphere. The route leads you further to Harkstede, where you will encounter Stel\\\'s Molen (Stel\\\'s Meuln). This ground sailor was built in 1851 to grind corn. It was restored in 1982. Nowadays the mill is operated with the help of volunteer millers.
Entreprise
In the town of Kolham you will come across the second mill. This mill, which was built in 1906, replaced a wall mill from 1880. The wall mill burned down and for the construction of the Entreprise, the wooden octagon of a water mill was transferred as a tower mill. The mill came to a standstill after the Second World War, requiring restoration in the 1970s. In 2000 the mill almost completely burned out, after which the tower mill had to be rebuilt.
