Tour of Drensche Aa and Grolloo

From here you will discover the Drentsche Aa river basin, which has hardly changed in the past 150 years. The stream meanders as it used to, because no large-scale land consolidation has taken place in this area. The picturesque esdorpen with their Saxon farms complete the leap back in time. You will also drive across the Balloërveld. On the edge of this vast heathland you will pass a sheepfold housing a herd of around 400 Drenthe heath sheep. The walking questions on the heathland were dug when this area was used as a military training ground. You will also discover the pleasant Gasteren and Anderen. Grolloo is a beautiful esdorp, where you can admire some beautiful Saxon farms.
