De Fryske Marren, Friesland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 120880
Provided by: Groots Genieten
The starting point is on the edge of the Rijsterbos, a 172-hectare deciduous forest that was created in the seventeenth century as a coppice. A special archaeological find was made in the forest: a stone coffin from the Funnel Beaker culture, from which the Drenthe dolmens also originate. In the forests of the Gaasterland, shy deer feed on the fresh leaves of flowers, shrubs and plants. At the edge of the forests and between the hedgerows, badgers build their beautiful castles. Pay close attention to their scraping and feeding marks, as this indicates that these beautiful black and white animals are nearby! Also take a break at the boulder at the cemetery in Mirns.
