Blow out in the National Landscape of Southwest Friesland

This route takes you along the IJsselmeer coast and the wooded Gaasterland in the Southwest Friesland National Landscape, one of the twenty national landscapes in the Netherlands.

De Vlijt The first sight on your route is the De Vlijt mill. This beautiful spider head tower mill was built in 1986 and is therefore very young by mill standards. The proportions have deviated due to a renovation: the mill has a larger, wider lower tower than usual and the proportions between axle and sails have also changed considerably. Further along the IJsselmeer coast and the idyllic Gaasterland you will also come across beautiful flowers and plants. Foxglove, wood anemone, collar anemone and wild garlic, for example.

Skating Museum In Hindelopen you will pass the First Frisian Skating Museum, where you can reminisce about the Elfstedentocht. Then you will drive to the cast iron lighthouse at the IJsselmeer: the Lighthouse of Stavoren. The tower has a height of 15.7 meters and was used to help ships reach the port of Stavoren. In 2001 the building was restored, the tower was then blasted and painted again. In Mirns you will find a beautiful bell tower.
