Description

The starting point of this route is on the edge of the Veerse Meer. From here you cycle in a large circle around the water. This lake was created when the Delta Works were constructed and the Veerse Gat was dammed. The brackish water is one of the few places in the Netherlands where the Zuiderzee crab occurs. Furthermore, the lake is popular with water sports enthusiasts such as sailors, surfers and canoeists. Along the way, a pattern of constructed channels and dikes shows how the land was reclaimed in small steps. On this route you also cycle past the nice fortified town of Veere and the round stone mill De Koe. This mill was not built until 1909.
