Nijkerk is a nice town on the edge of the Gelderse Vallei. An ideal base for a cycling tour with plenty of sights.
Beautiful Nijkerk
You first cycle through Nijkerk. A small, but cozy town with a beautiful old center. Here you can see the Grote Kerk from 1540, the tower from 1776. On the Zeedijk you pass the monumental eighteenth-century lock house and the Arkersluis. On the right you look out on the Nijkerkernau and Flevoland, on the left is Arkemheenpolder. This was already constructed in the fourteenth century, it is one of the oldest polders in the Netherlands.
Port of Spakenburg
Spakenburg is a former fishing village on the Zuiderzee. You will cycle along the old harbor, which enjoys a protected village view. What a lovely atmosphere! Cycling along the Eem you will see beautiful farms, extensive meadows, rippling water and flowery dike edges. In Amersfoort you cycle through Stadspark Schothorst. You can clearly see from the beech avenues that this city park was once an estate.
