Description
During this bike tour you will pass several historic windmills. In Meliskerke, for example, you can see a ground sail from 1801. This round, stone ground sail was built to grind corn. The mill operated until 1954, but then fell into disrepair until it was restored in 1987. The ground sailor can be visited on Saturdays. Mill t Welvaaren is located in Grijpskerke. It was also built in 1801. The corn mill replaced a standard mill that had blown over. In 1845 the windmill's sails blew, so that it was later dismantled and only the mill hull remained. Because people lived in the hull who later added parts to the mill, the mill can no longer operate even after restoration. Have lunch at Dijkpaviljoen De Westkaap, where you can enjoy delicious regional products!
