Around Huis Doorn is a surprisingly large forest park where you can walk freely. The German Emperor Wilhelm II lived here after the First World War. He had applied for asylum in the Netherlands. His hobby was cutting down trees, but fortunately he also planted trees in return. From his hand is the pinetum; a collection of coniferous trees. The rose garden was already there when he came to live there, but he turned it into a symmetrical garden. The circular walk of more than 2 km (or longer if you take the inner paths) is beautiful in every season.
