Cycling through polders on Tholen

Tholen is a former island on the Oosterschelde. This unknown cycling gem is worth discovering. For example, you will find the historic town of Tholen!

Scherpenisse polder
The route starts at the edge of the Scherpenissepolder. Here you cycle along an unspoilt and bird-rich nature reserve that consists of saline soils. To the right is the Oosterschelde: climb the dike to enjoy a beautiful view over the water, while enjoying the fresh air. At junction 40, to the left of the road is a bird-rich nature reserve with saline and sweet grasslands: the Schakerloopolder.

Historic Tholen
Tholen is a town with a historic center that is still largely surrounded by ramparts and fortresses. You will find many monuments here, such as the beautiful sixteenth-century Church of Our Lady. You drive on low-traffic roads through the wide and quiet polders to the end point. It's wonderful cycling here!
