Tholen is a former island on the Oosterschelde. This unknown cycling gem is worth discovering. For example, you will find the historic town of Tholen there! The route starts at the edge of the Scherpenissepolder. You cycle along an unspoilt and bird-rich nature reserve that consists of salty soils. On the right is the Oosterschelde: climb the dike to enjoy a beautiful view over the water, while enjoying the fresh air. At junction 40, on the left of the road is a bird-rich nature reserve with salty and sweet grasslands: the Schakerloopolder. Tholen is a town with a historic centre that is still largely surrounded by ramparts and fortifications. You will find many monuments here, such as the beautiful sixteenth-century Church of Our Lady. Take a break at Hart van Tholen!
