Tour of Vilsteren,rechterense and Giethmense Veld

Your route starts at Bergzicht Camping and Chalet Park. Coniferous forest, flanked by deciduous forests: that characterizes the Voegense Veld. It used to be a drifting sand area, which you can still notice from the many hills in the terrain. There are lovely fens on the heath and a stone's throw away you will find the former esdorp Vilsteren and the pleasant Ommen. During your bike ride you will come across the Rechteren estate and castle. This castle is the only medieval castle that has been preserved in Overijssel. The castle was once built on behalf of the counts of Bentheim. The castle remained the property of these counts until the beginning of the fourteenth century. The castle then came into the hands of Herman van Voorst and through inheritance it became the property of the van Heeckeren family.
