Cycling along Leeuwarden, Baard and Weidum

Cycling in Friesland is wonderful. It is nice and quiet, there are characteristic large lakes and meadows and the forests are beautifully green. Get on your bike and explore the area southwest of Leeuwarden. You start at the parking lot just outside Leeuwarden and cycle towards Oosterlittens. You will pass Jongema State, a country house from the 15th century. Only the gatehouse of the country house (also called stins) has been preserved. Park Jongemastate is now located on the site, a wooded area surrounded by a moat. On the way you can take a rest at Café Restaurant Baard in Baart. Don't forget to try the spare ribs, the house specialty. You cycle back to Leeuwarden via Weidum and Boksum.
