Wooded cycling along the Hidden Village and the Stakenberg

The Hidden Village was a shelter for people in hiding during the Second World War. Soon after leaving Camping de Tol you will pass this secret place in the middle of the woods around Vierhouten. The village was inhabited by about eighty people in hiding during the Second World War. Among them were refugees from the camp in Amersfoort, Jews and fallen pilots. Godfried Bomans also sought shelter here. In'44 the village was discovered by SS\\\'ers. Eight of the 86 people in hiding were shot. The others managed to escape. You leave this special place behind you and cycle towards Elspeet. From the lookout tower on the Stakenberg you have a great view of the surrounding area. Once back at the campsite, you can enjoy a cooling drink on the cozy terrace.
