The charm of the Kootwijkerzand

There are several unique nature reserves on the Veluwe. One such gem is the Kootwijkerzand. The route also takes you through the forests, the Gelderse Vallei and Hoog-Buurlo.

Garderen
After a while you drive along the edge of the Houtdorperveld, between the trees you have beautiful views over the heath. In Garderen you can see some beautiful old buildings and De Hoop, a flour mill from 1852.

Hoog-Buurlo
In the woods of Boeschoten you pass an authentic sheepfold, then you drive a bit through the Gelderse Vallei. Enjoy the vast landscape for a moment before cycling into the woods again. After a while you drive across the Kootwijkerzand: an extensive sand drift that is partly covered with mosses and grasses. Hoog-Buurlo is a unique old settlement of two sheepfolds and two houses surrounded by stately beech avenues and fields with wild banks. An idyllic spot!
