Zoutkamp, Kollum and Warfster Mill

The Kollumerwaard, through which this cycle route runs, is located in the southwestern part of Lauwersmeer National Park. Planted forests and extensive reed beds offer a beautiful picture and beautiful vistas between poplars, abels, alders and willows. The great spotted woodpecker raps enthusiastically on the trees and the summer dove turtles at a great height, while roe deer dart between the trees. Marsh birds also have a good time in the area. The bittern can be heard like a foghorn above the rustling of the wind through the reeds and the harrier hunts small prey here. The area is literally an oasis of calm; water remains between the trees, gradually forming a swamp forest.

During your bike ride, don't forget to get off in Veenklooster. Here you will see Fogelsangh State, a former fortress dating back to 1646. In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, renovations took place on the manor and the park around it was also laid out in English landscape style. The original furniture is still in the stins and in the coach house. Visitors can view the old carriages and other beautiful things in the country house.
