Zoutkamp, Kollum and Warfstermolen

The Kollumerwaard, through which this cycle route passes, is located in the southwestern part of Lauwersmeer National Park. Planted forests and extensive reed fields offer a beautiful picture and beautiful views between poplars, poplars, alders and willows. The great spotted woodpecker drums enthusiastically on the trees and the turtledove turtles at a great height, while deer dart away between the trees. Marsh birds also enjoy the area. The bittern sounds like a foghorn above the rustling of the wind through the reeds and the harrier hunts small prey here. The area is literally an oasis of peace; water remains between the trees, gradually forming a swamp forest.

During your bike ride, don't forget to stop in Veenklooster. Here you see Fogelsangh State, a former castle dating from 1646. Renovations took place at the country house in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and the park around it was also laid out in the English landscape style. The original furnishings are still present in the stins and in the coach house. Visitors can view the old carriages and other beautiful things in the country house.
