Description

Pieterburen is best known for the seal nursery, but the Gothic Petruskerk is also beautiful to see, for example. Near Pieterburen you pass the Vier Winden windmill, a tower mill built in 1846. You cycle through the polder landscape to Westernieland, with a Dutch Reformed Church from the thirteenth century or in the fourteenth century. Because the echo holes in the relatively low church tower are not on the east side, residents of Pieterburen and Kaakhorn usually hear this better than the residents of Westernieland itself. Freek de Jonge was born in the presbytery. Finally, you will arrive at Warffum: with a height of almost six meters, one of the highest wierden in Groningen.
