Tour around the Peel from Meijel

Your route starts at Peel Pavilion Onze Stek. The Peel originated on a sandy plain with impenetrable clay layers underneath. Because rainwater remained standing, peat moss peat formed. The raised peat bog used to cover around 30,000 hectares, now only De Groote Peel National Park remains. Traces of peat extraction not only add a cultural-historical dimension, but also a landscape dimension: nature has become more varied and large water ponds, small peat wells and peeling canals have emerged. These attract rare butterflies and dragonflies. Get off at Buitencentrum De Pelen to find out more about the area and possibly take a walk into the national park! Your route will lead you through lovely villages. Meijel is a larger town, worth taking a break.
