Fortland route

You start this beautiful route at the Muiderslot and enter a 34 km long cycle route along 7 forts, all of which are part of the defense lines New Dutch Waterline and the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Cycling along the Dutch Waterline is surprisingly varied. You will see tumbling lapwings and a glimpse of the egret, pass beautiful country houses and discover cozy fortified towns. In the distance another fascinating fortress awaits, many with a terrace. Recharge in the sun and out of the wind for the next stage. With the Fortenland route you will pass Muiden, Muiderberg, Naarden, Bussum, De Horn and Weesp. Along the way there is ample opportunity to eat or drink something on a terrace or in a restaurant. You park your car at the free parking lot P1 (P+R terrain Maxisweg) in Muiden from where you can visit the Muiderslot. The Muiderslot is a real medieval moated castle: a square castle with a drawbridge, five towers, battlements and embrasures. At the castle there is also a ferry service from where you can sail to the fortress island of Pampus. Would you rather get on your bike straight away? You then cycle via Muiden to the fortified city of Weesp, after which you continue the tour along the Naardermeer to Naarden. The fortified town of Naarden is the oldest town in the Gooi region and one of the most beautiful Dutch cultural monuments. To learn more about the turbulent history of the town, a visit to the Dutch Fortress Museum is highly recommended. Via Fort Werk IV in Bussum, through the Naarderbos, via Muiderberg and along the IJsselmeer you will return to Muiden.
