Description

Your route starts at Boerderijcamping De Jobinghoeve Grolloo. Hunebed D20 and Hunebed D19 are located near the village of Drouwen. These two hunebeds are the first in the Netherlands to be subjected to modern archaeological research. This happened in 1912. Both graves date from the same period. The special thing about hunebed D20 is that most of the kerbstones that were originally at the foot of the hill have been preserved. Cycling further, you will pass the remains of Motte Gieten. A motte castle is a type of castle from the Middle Ages, which is usually made of wood and was built on a constructed hill of earth: a motte. A defensive structure was built on that hill. The earth for the hill often came from the moat that was dug around it.
