It seems as if the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park is specially made for cycling nature lovers. You can cycle peacefully and enjoy beautiful views of the Salland countryside.
The landscape of the Sallandse Heuvelrug was formed 200,000 years ago by glaciers from Scandinavia. The ridge was once dotted with heather, now there are also forests to prevent sand drifts. You see trees such as Scots pine, larch and Douglas fir, but also birch. The whimsical shapes that the old oaks have here are beautiful. The ancient juniper bushes are also a picture. One of the two remaining groups of grouse in the Netherlands still lives in this area.
The Sallandse Heuvelrug is a bit of a climb from time to time. The Noetselerberg, for example, is 60 meters high, the Haarlerberg 63 meters. But the views of the beautiful surroundings are a nice reward for your effort. In atmospheric Holten you can take a look at the village church built in 1832 with its beautiful white tower.
