De Ronde Venen, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 117048
Provided by: Groots Genieten
From your starting point you drive to the Westveense mill. This seesaw mill from 1676 was built to drain the Westveense polder. The Fort at Uithoorn had a special defensive position. Instead of closing off waterways, this fort was built to protect the (former) railways that ran here. Around Fort Waver-Amstel, many rabbits hop in the reeds and grass in and around the moat. A wine importer is located in the fort. There are regular open days. Then you head to the Fort in the Botshol, which was built on soft peat soil that was reinforced with sand. Also unique to this fort is the bridge, the middle section of which could be removed in times of danger.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
