Description
The wet peat area of the Arkemheen-Eemland National Landscape is as Dutch as it gets. Endless vistas, green meadows and grazing cows. Those are the things that come to mind when you think of a Dutch landscape. In this area you can enjoy all the peace and space.
Kilometers of peace and space
In the northern part of the landscape there is hardly any tree or house to be seen and in the rest of the area there are hardly any buildings left. On the 12154 hectares of the peatland you will find several rare plants such as valerian, loosestrife, celestial key and arrowweed. The peaceful area is also the habitat of various meadow birds. They can rest and breed here undisturbed. The ermine, the weasel and hares also enjoy the peace and quiet here and gather their food together. The route is for the most part along the water with serene views. That is really relaxing on the bike.
