Scherpenzeel, Leusden and Woudenberg

After an overnight stay at Landgoed ISVW you set off. You see many more estates today, so an appropriate place to stay! You will soon cycle to Huize Ten Treek, already mentioned in 1337 as a farmhouse. It is named after a tree on which official municipal notices were posted. There was already a fortified house on the site of the noble House of Scherpenzeel in the fourteenth century. It acquired its symmetrical and graceful appearance in the mid-nineteenth century. In the time when the Netherlands still had several states that were governed by bishops, counts, dukes and landlords, Scherpenzeel was still called'Scarpenzele\\\'. The last part (\\\'zeel\\\') refers to a fortified house, the first part indicates sharp poles around the village: the prototype of an old fortress.
