The area derives its characteristic, historic identity mainly from the many windmills along the Kinderdijk in Nieuw-Lekkerland. The highlight of this route is Kinderdijk, known for its windmills. There are nineteen windmills around the Kinderdijk. You also cycle past Alblasserdam and cross the water with the ferry to Oostendam. Via Ridderkerk you follow the IJssel north towards Capelle aan den IJssel and Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel.
