Description
The Utrechtse Heuvelrug is a veritable natural beauty. Heathlands, open sandy plains and deciduous and coniferous forests alternate in a gently rolling landscape. Two ecoducts help wildlife find their way in the nature reserve, which is inhabited by badgers, lizards, foxes, deer, roe deer and wild boars.
Between the large green areas you will find various estates. The route takes you along the Quatre Bras estate, among other things. This estate is almost 2000 hectares in size and is privately owned. A little further on lies the De Hoogt estate. Here a country house dominates the estate on a higher part of the terrain. The former country house consisted of only the middle part of the building, but in 1925 the house was considerably expanded with a balcony on Tuscan columns, several dormers in the roof slopes and three French doors on the first floor. Very impressive to see.
