The St. Annabos is part of this and was planted in the 16th century for the timber yield. Just like the Mastbos, a little further on, which supplied wood for the Spanish fleet and the VOC ships, among other things. These forests are actually natural museums. In addition to the centuries-old trees, you can enjoy impressive avenues and lovely ponds here. In the heart of Breda, you cycle past the impressive medieval Breda Castle, complete with a moat and four corner towers. A little further on lies the centuries-old Wolfslaar estate. The current stylish country house was built in 1862, commissioned by Baroness Charlotte Storm-Cuypers. Then you cycle into the Ulvenhoutse Bossen again, an old forest of beautiful winter oaks and beeches.
