Forest, heath, city and water in one day

This route takes you across the Veluwe, along the Veluwerandmeren and through historic Harderwijk. A long day full of moments of enjoyment!

Elspeetse Heide
You start this route from the free parking lot of Bospark De Tonnenberg. From here you can cycle straight into the vast Leuvenum Forests. The cycle path takes you past old deciduous trees and fragrant conifers. How nice and quiet it is in the middle of this vast nature reserve! You also cycle along the sandy paths of the Elspeetse Heide, where flocks of heath sheep traditionally graze. There are still ancient burial mounds here. A beautiful area!

The Essenburgh
In Hierden you can admire De Essenburgh. This castle was built to acquire a place within the Knighthood of Veluwe. When this failed, the owner had to sell the castle to his creditors. Harderwijk has one of the best preserved old city centers in the Netherlands, you will experience a rich history here. In the Gelderse Vallei you will pass the Group Accommodation De Aalbertshoeve, where you can stay and book various activities. You drive back into the Veluwe via Ermelo.
