Tour of Boxbergen, Sion Abbey and Sallandse Heuvelrug

Your route starts at Het Wapen Van Wesepe, from here you make a beautiful loop through the Sallandse Heuvelrug. On the way back you will discover Sion Abbey, a Cistercian abbey of the Trappist order in Diepenveen. The monastery was founded in 1883 and it is the only Trappist monastery in the Netherlands above the major rivers. A little further on you will find the manor and Boxbergen estate. The estate has remained relatively intact. Forestry, livestock farming and recreation still take place in the relief-rich cover sand area. The history of the house dates back at least to 1344, when it first appeared in the archives. The house was rebuilt after a fire between 1650 and 1653. It then had seven facades with hundreds of windows: one of the largest houses in the region!
