Tour around Oldenzaal from Denekamp

Your route starts at Streekrestaurant't Sterrebos. Beautiful avenues with deciduous trees, lovely meadows with hedgerows and fields full of herbs and wild flowers: the grasslands of Boerskotten, southeast of Oldenzaal, offer you all the peace and space you could wish for. Bell gentian and orchids wave between the grass. White wood sorrel grows in natural forests with native tree species. The rare black woodpecker drums oval nest cavities in old trees here. You will also pass the estates of Oldenzaal and the small towns of Saasveld, Lemselo and Rossum. The Natura 2000 area Lonnekermeer is located between Hengelo, Oldenzaal and Enschede. It consists of the Lonnekermeer estate and the De Wildernis stream valley landscape. Two ponds in the area were created by sand extraction. It is part of a historic chain of estates.
