Your route starts at Q-Bike in Laren. First you cycle to the Groeneveld estate. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries it was common for wealthy Amsterdammers to purchase a country estate where they could go during the summer. Groeneveld was built in 1710 by the prosperous Marcus Mamuchet. The nearby Buitenzorg is also a beautiful, extensive estate. The house was built in 1840 by order of Joan Huydecoper and Johanna van Tets, who were also the owners of Groeneveld. The most famous building on this route is undoubtedly Soestdijk Palace, built as a hunting lodge in 1650. The young stadtholder, Willem III, bought the homestead in 1674. After Beatrix was honored as queen in 1980, Princess Juliana and Prince Bernhard moved in there.
