Description

On an elongated, high sandy ridge between the Meuse and the German border, there are relatively young conifers and heather plants, which were planted on what was once drifting sand. This sand has determined the appearance of De Maasduinen National Park: a terraced landscape consisting of lower and higher sandy soils, the Maas valley and a plateau. In addition to the beautiful nature, you can also visit Boxmeer Castle Museum. The castle is located on a former island on the Maas and was built in the fourteenth century. Until 1568, the castle was inhabited by the Lords and Women of Boxmeer, until the Royal garrison was housed there. In 1897, Julie Postel's sisters established a hospital on the site.
