A cycle route that is all about windmills and watercourses. You drive along the Waal and the Dammed Maas. In the polders of the Bommelerwaard and the Land van Heusden & Altena you can enjoy the tranquility and old villages worth seeing.
Slot Loevestein
The route starts at De Hoop, a beautiful white flour mill from 1863. On the Waaldijk you immediately experience what awaits you during the rest of your route: the tranquility of a wide landscape. You pass the Battery under Brakel, a defense of the New Dutch Waterline. You drive through the De Waarden nature reserve near Loevestein to Slot Loevestein. There is a museum located in the castle from which Hugo de Groot escaped in a spectacular way.
