A cycle route that focuses on windmills and waterways. You drive along the Waal and Afgedamde Maas. In the polders of the Bommelerwaard and the Land van Heusden & Altena you can enjoy the peace and quiet and old villages worth seeing.
Loevestein Castle
The route starts at De Hoop, a beautiful white flour mill from 1863. On the Waaldijk you immediately experience what awaits you during the rest of your route: the tranquility of a vast landscape. You pass the Battery under Brakel, a defense structure of the New Dutch Waterline. You drive through the De Waarden nature reserve near Loevestein to Slot Loevestein. There is a museum in the castle from which Hugo Grotius escaped in spectacular fashion.
