Description
This route takes you past numerous centuries-old burial sites in the form of dolmens and burial mounds. The mounds were built over human remains, which were kept in a coffin or urn. Burial mounds were expanded further and further and later deceased were 'interred' in this way. In total there are around 60 burial mounds in the Strubben-Kniphorstbos near Anloo. You will also regularly come across dolmens here. Dolmen D14 is very recognizable. The stones are so gigantic that you wonder how they ever managed to place them on top of each other with only stones and wooden tools. Dolmen D08 is located along the edge of the forest. The ring stones are missing, but it is still one of the most beautiful and complete dolmens in Drenthe. Take a break halfway at Pannenkoekenboerderij Brinkzicht!
