There are several beautiful nature reserves around Emmen. First you cycle to the Valtherbos. Here you mainly cycle between fragrant conifers. In the village of Weerdinge you cycle past several characteristic farms, after which you cycle into the former peat area. While you cycle on car-free roads, you can enjoy the vast landscape at your leisure. You pass through Emmer-Compascuum, a name that means 'the common pasture of Emmen'. Further on you come through the Oosterbos. This nature reserve was planted in the seventies as part of the redevelopment of the Veenkoloniën. The soil here consists largely of never excavated raised bog. A little later you cycle through the Emmerdennen, a forest that was planted in the nineteenth century. Along the Oranjekanaal, dug between 1853 and 1861, you cycle to Cafe't Haantje Eten & Drinken.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
