Enjoy the Gieten-Borger Forestry

Gieten-Borger forestry is ideal for exploring by bike. At Drouwen you will pass two beautiful dolmens, in Gasselte you can soak up the Drenthe village atmosphere.

Drenthe silence
In Boswachterij Gieten-Borger you cycle through a nature reserve of almost 3000 hectares that consists of a mix of deciduous and coniferous forests, heathland and peat bogs. It will not be difficult to make kilometers here. The deeper you cycle into the forest, the quieter it becomes. Wonderful! The route also leads you to two burial mounds and to another special spot in the middle of the forest.

Drenthe dolmens
At Drouwen you will find even more typical Drenthe cultural history: you will pass dolmen D19 and the nearby D20. The first modern archaeological research into Dutch dolmens began on this site. Both dolmens have been preserved reasonably well. In Gasselte you will see several old Saxon farms. You can also take a look at the strikingly white Church of Our Lady, which originally dates from the middle of the thirteenth century. At Restaurant de Wiemel you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee, lunch and dinner.
