Enjoy Gieten-Borger Forestry

Gieten-Borger Forestry is ideal for exploring by bike. At Drouwen you will pass two beautiful dolmens, in Gasselte you can experience the Drenthe village atmosphere.

Drenthe silence
In Boswachterij Gieten-Borger you drive through an almost 3,000 hectare nature reserve that consists of a mix of deciduous and coniferous forests, heathland and peat bogs. You will have no trouble racking up miles here. The deeper you cycle into the forest, the quieter it becomes. Delicious! The route also leads you to two burial mounds and to another special spot in the middle of the forest.

Drenthe dolmens
At Drouwen you will find even more typical Drenthe cultural history: you will pass dolmen D19 and the nearby D20. The first modern archaeological research into Dutch dolmens began in this area. Both dolmens are reasonably well preserved. In Gasselte you can see some old Saxon farms. You can also take a look at the striking white Church of Our Lady, which originally dates from the mid-thirteenth century. At Restaurant de Wiemel you can enjoy a nice cup of coffee, lunch and dinner.
