Round Sneekermeer 47 Km

The beautiful sun on the water, the vast polder landscape and reedlands that stretch far in front of you. The interesting, rich nature reserve around the Sneekermeer is a unique nature reserve, even in Friesland. The lake attracts migratory birds in spring and autumn. The ruff, golden plover and snipe all stop here for a short stop before moving to warmer areas. Breeding birds make themselves comfortable between the waving reed collars and in the meadows behind them. The godwit, lapwing, yellow wagtail and summer teal like to build their nests here and of course reed birds such as the bluethroat, sedge warbler, little reed warbler and bittern are completely in their element here. In winter you will find thousands of geese here, but there are also mammals around the Sneekermeer. The vole and the hedgehog roam through the meadows, which are completely yellow in the summer because of the blooming marsh marigold. They try to escape the watchful eye of ermines, polecats and weasels. Roe deer jump through the field, for example through the Terkaplesterpoelen area, which is one of the largest contiguous blue grasslands in the Netherlands. In winter, thousands of geese hibernate here, including the white-fronted goose, barnacle goose and Canada goose. The northern vole, hedgehog, ermine, polecat, weasel and deer live in the area. In the spring, entire meadows are colored yellow by the marsh marigold. The Terkaplesterpoelen area contains one of the largest contiguous blue grasslands in the Netherlands. There is also plenty of activity on the water. The lake attracts water recreationists, who come to enjoy themselves on the lake with fast, agile skuts and other sailing boats.
