What could be better than cycling in a nature reserve far away from civilization? In the raised bog area of De Groote Peel National Park and on the Strabrechtse Heide, you can imagine yourself in a completely different world by bike.
From nature reserve to nature reserve
From the starting point of this route you cycle in the direction of Groote Peel. Peat used to be cut in this bird-rich nature reserve. Cycle through this raised moor area and admire the peat moss, sundew and lavender heather that you encounter here. From here you cycle to the towns of Asten and Lierop. Then it is time to exchange civilization for the Strabrechtse Heide. This area consists of seemingly endless heathlands with shrub and heather and the Beuven, the largest fen in the Netherlands. Special vegetation grows along the fen, such as the water spoon and the carnivorous sundew. So take a good look around when you cycle along the Ven.

The National Carillon Museum
On the edge of Asten you cycle past the Carillon Museum. This museum is dedicated to church bells and the history of the bell foundry. The largest bell foundry in the world is located in Asten. Even the bell for Notre Dame was cast here. In this museum you will learn more about this special history of Asten. In 2006, the museum merged with the Jan Vriends Nature Museum, where you can learn more about the Peel.
