Go and taste the atmosphere in the cozy Kuikduin. This seaside resort, located near Scheveningen and Royal The Hague, attracts many holidaymakers and tourists every year. They come to enjoy the long boulevard, the cozy shops and the lookout tower over the sea. Around 1900 Kijkduin was just as big as Scheveningen, but the growth that that seaside resort experienced never took place on that scale in Kijkduin. Kijkduin has therefore always remained cozy, despite the many bathers that the town manages to attract. The first houses in Kijkduin date from 1923, but the buildings and the surrounding nature were decimated during the Second World War, because the Atlantic Wall was built and because accidents took place with V-weapons, which were launched from Bloemendaal. So it was that at the end of the war only a number of beach bars and an Indian restaurant remained. The storm surge in 1953 did not help the development of Kijkduin and it got off to a slow start. The recreational function has clearly increased since then. Shops, catering establishments and a boulevard that was built on top of a dune guarantee a pleasant day at the beach.
