Tour of the Sallandse Heuvelrug from Holten

Your route starts at Restaurant & IJssalon Nijkamp. On this tour you will become fully acquainted with the extensive forests and heathlands of this moraine on the border between Salland and Twente. Occasionally it requires some climbing, because the Overijsselse'mountains\\\' reach heights of up to 80 meters. At the southern tip of the route you will find Holten. On the square near the church there is a statue of a courtship korhaan. A few centuries ago, there was a vast heathland north of Holten where sods were cut that farmers used in the stables to collect the sheep manure. With the introduction of fertilizer, the heathland and sheep became redundant. A flock of sheep still grazes on the Noetselerberg to prevent the heath from becoming grassy.
