Leiden and the Kaag area

Leiden is a historic city with beautiful canals, almost three thousand monuments, twelve leading museums and a vibrant city center. In addition to the city, the surrounding area of Leiden also has a lot to offer. This cycling route introduces you to the rural area around the Kagerplassen. Characteristic of this environment is the alternation between the peat meadow area (polders) and the water. These areas are undeniably beautiful in terms of landscape and cultural-historically valuable, due to the characteristic allotment pattern, the striking windmills and the virtual absence of buildings. During this route you will pass the villages of Warmond, Buitenkaag, Nieuwe Wetering, Rijpwetering and Oud Ade. The route ends in the city center of Leiden where you can view the Pieterskerk and the Hortus Botanicus, among others. Sights along the way - Huys te Warmont The privately inhabited"Huys te Warmont\\\" is located in a beautiful park of approximately 20 hectares and has the shape of a late 18th century country house, with medieval castle remains and is surrounded by water on three sides . The house still has an original Louis XVI interior. In one of the towers hangs one of the oldest bells in the Netherlands called Barbara from the year 1392. - Vrouwe Vennemolen In 1632,"De Vrouw Venne\\\" was built on the spot where it still stands today, together with a\"De Vrouwe Venne\\\" \\"verlaet\\\" is a lock that bridges the level between the lower polder on the one hand and the higher canal on the other.
