Natural Soest: enjoy the forest, outdoors and special military landscape

For true nature lovers, this cycling tour through Soest and the surrounding area is a wonderful experience. Varied landscapes, from forest to heathland, make cycling in this beautiful area a pleasure! Characteristic of this route are the rolling roads on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug with deciduous and coniferous forests and beautiful open areas lined with beautiful greenery. You will also pass country houses that are characteristic of this area. In Soest you pass the dunes and the high-altitude Eng, both of which were formed during the Ice Age. The varied route goes past Soestdijk Palace, via the Pijnenburg forest to the Lange Duinen. Further on you pass through Den Dolder and past the villas in Bosch en Duin. The new Park Soesterberg Air Base with the architecturally special National Military Museum is located between junctions 55 and 56. Both museum and park are worth a visit. For example, experience the panoramic view of the former runway! And enjoy the rare skylark, an icon of the air base. After this, the Austerlitz forest begins, which is more rugged in nature with oak, larch, beech and pine trees. A little further on you will pass the Den Treek estate. Back in Soest you cycle along the Eng, past the windmill De Windhond and through the historic church district.
