Naturally Soest: enjoy the forest, countryside and special military landscape

For true nature lovers, this cycling tour through Soest and the surrounding area is a wonderful experience. Varied landscapes, from forest to heathland, make cycling in this beautiful area a pleasure! Characteristic of this route are the rolling roads on the Utrechtse Heuvelrug with deciduous and coniferous forests and beautiful open areas bordered by beautiful greenery. You will also pass country houses that are characteristic of this area. In Soest you will pass the dunes and the high-lying Eng, both of which were formed during the ice age. The varied route goes past Soestdijk Palace, via the Pijnenburg forest to the Lange Duinen. Further on you will pass through Den Dolder and the villas in Bosch en Duin. Between junctions 55 and 56 lies the new Park Vliegbasis Soesterberg with the architecturally special National Military Museum. Both the museum and the park are more than worth a visit. For example, experience the expansive view of the former runway! And enjoy the rare skylark, icon of the air base. After this, the forest of Austerlitz begins, which is rougher in nature with oak, larch, beech and pine trees. A little further on you pass the estate Den Treek. Back in Soest you cycle over the Eng past the windmill De Windhond and through the historic church district.
