Description

Water has always played an important role in the Netherlands. Without the dikes, dams, canals and the Delta Works, much of the country would be under water. This cycling route takes you along the water in the area of 's-Hertogenbosch. You will also pass three forts: The Citadel, Fort Isabella and Fort Orthen. You drive beautifully along the Engelsche Gat and the Fransche Wielen. These are two relatively small bodies of water located east of 's-Hertogenbosch. The Ertveldplas was constructed because sand was needed to build a railway embankment. The Dommel was once an important river. It was sailed in Roman times. You cycle back via the center of's-Hertogenbosch.
