Like many other villages in this area, Dwingeloo is a green village. In general, these villages emerged in the High Middle Ages. Cattle were kept on the village green and the residents planted poplars and oaks. This wood was later used for the construction of houses. The village green was often in the center of the village and markets took place there. You start from this picturesque town and cycle straight into the Drents-Friese Wold National Park. This is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands. The landscape alternates between forests, heathland, drifting sand and stream valley grasslands. Grazers roam the plains. And do you spot the black woodpecker? Halfway through, stretch your legs at Park Drentheland. Enjoy a delicious lunch on the terrace before you start your way back.
