Tour of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park

From Park Drentheland you can cycle straight into the beautiful nature of the Drents-Friese Wold National Park. The landscape varies rapidly: you cycle through coniferous forests, over heathlands and along fens. The vegetation is just as varied, which is why the animal world here is very rich. Heathland, fens, drifting sands and forests are important bird biotopes. But you also regularly see deer, hares, rabbits and squirrels hopping past. In the surrounding villages you cycle past a number of bell towers. These were often built because poorer villages could afford a simple church building, but not the tower where the bell would hang. That is why this became a freestanding construction, special to see. Take a break along the way at Restaurant Aekingerzand, right on the beautiful Aeckingermeer, or Canadameer!
