The nature of Groot and Klein Schietveld

This route takes you along the edges of the Groot and Klein Schietveld, two unspoilt nature reserves. You will also pass through the historic village center of Wuustwezel.

Small Shooting Field
You start the route at the edge of the Klein Schietveld, a shooting range founded in 1820 by King Willem 1. Shooting exercises were held here until 1894, after which an airfield and military camp were built. Nature has remained undisturbed around this military domain. You will find an unprecedented wealth of plant species here. Just before junction 38 you cross the Antitankgracht, which is part of the Defense Line of Antwerp.

Beautiful Wuustwezel
Further on you cross the Groot Schietveld, another natural gem. In the old center of Wuustwezel you will pass Patisserie - Koffiebar Meeussen, a wonderful place to take a rest. Literally, because they make delicious cakes here! You will also pass sights such as the ancient village church and Hens Castle. The former town hall dates from 1897, the original prison door is still located under the stairs. You drive back to the starting point through the quiet countryside.
