Mill route through the polders of Zoetermeer

Your cycling tour starts at Saam Onder de Molen. You cycle past the Driemanspolder Bovenmolen, the Driemandspolder Middenmolen and the Driemandspolder Ondermolen from 1672. These mills used to drain part of the Driemanspolder. Nowadays they are used as backup drainage when the water is very high in this area. A little further on you cycle past the lakes of the Leidschendammerhout, an elongated wet nature reserve. You will find different species of birds here, such as wild geese and gadwalls. You also cycle through the young De Balij forest. The oldest part of this forest was created in 1992 for the Floriade. Since then, the forest has expanded with swamps and wooded areas full of beech, oak and willow. From here you can enjoy beautiful vistas with a view of the polders.
