Description

During this route you will get to know the well-known and lesser-known sights around The Hague. Meanwhile you can enjoy the beautiful scenery. We start the route at Paviljoen Malieveld. This legendary place is known for the many demonstrations. Nowadays, the Malieveld also serves as a place where military parades (a tradition of about 400 years), fairs, festivals take place. The largest mass demonstration attracted 550,000 demonstrators. It was held on October 29, 1983 and was directed against the placement of new nuclear weapons in the Netherlands. Paviljoen Malieveld has been on Malieveld in The Hague since 1941 and is known in The Hague and far beyond for its delicious poffertjes, pancakes and traditional Dutch waffles. The menu includes more than 20 different pancakes and other combinations are prepared for you by the chef on request. When temperatures are pleasant, the terrace is decorated, and you can enjoy a snack or a drink outside. Our pavilion is surrounded by a conservatory, so that you can also enjoy a ray of sun on the cooler days. The Haagse Bos is located north of the center of The Hague. This was the former hunting grounds of the Counts of Holland. Huis ten Bosch Palace is located in the Haagse Bos, which has been the residence of Queen Beatrix for many years. During the route you will also pass a series of estates and castles. Oud-Wassenaar Castle is one of these and was built in 1876-1879 for William III's equerry. After his death, the castle became a hotel and a series of important foreign guests stayed here. Nice to visit: The Hague The Hague offers a combination of culture, beach, history and relaxation. You can visit one of the museums, get a breath of fresh air on the beach of Scheveningen or go shopping in one of the shopping streets. Royal Estates The Horsten Landgoed de Horsten consists of three parts, Raaphorst, Ter Horst and Eikenhorst. The Horsten Tea Pavilion is located in De Horsten, where you can enjoy a snack and drink. The tea pavilion was the former hunting lodge of Prince Frederik. Dating back to 1861, the shooting house, as it used to be called, is octagonal in shape. After a visit to the Horsten you cycle past Backershagen. A high hill hidden in the green, the tea dome of Backershagen. The building from 1770 is also called the'mysterious dome\\\'. Further on you see the white Backershagenhuis. This house has the same shape as the house dating from around 1730, which served as a country house for Cornelis Backer, Alderman of Amsterdam. The last part of the route goes through the residential area Marlot, mostly built in the style of the New Hague School. The beautiful park Marlot borders the Haagse Bos. Through the trees you can see the dome and the back of the Huis ten Bosch palace. This cycle route is offered to you by Den Haag Marketing.
